Mathmatics Instruction

The Ross Valley School District is dedicated to helping every student develop a deep understanding of mathematics and the confidence to apply their learning in meaningful ways. Grounded in the Common Core Standards for Mathematics and aligned with the California State Framework for Mathematics, our TK–8 program emphasizes the eight Standards for Mathematical Practice, which foster mathematical thinking and support the development of procedural fluency.
In our mathematics classrooms, students:
-
Build conceptual understanding as the foundation for procedural fluency.
-
Engage in problem-based learning that encourages productive struggle and collaboration.
-
Develop critical thinking and reasoning through rich, multi-layered tasks.
-
Experience the joy and satisfaction of learning mathematics in a supportive, engaging environment.
-
Reflect on their progress, with opportunities to learn from mistakes and demonstrate growth over time.
Our TK–5 teachers use Bridges in Mathematics, and our 6–8 teachers implement Amplify Desmos Math. Both programs feature highly rated instructional materials that promote curiosity, creativity, and deep mathematical understanding—ensuring that every student grows as a confident, capable mathematician.
